Research

To succeed in reaching the BIG goals of the Chambers Lab there are a number of projects under way.

1) To understand how memories form in the mammalian brain.

How can we figure out the molecular mechanisms of memory if we can’t visualize the molecules involved?  Current technology is like watching a soccer match through a pair of foggy glasses.  We are going to improve this by offering crystal-clear vision of the players.

2) To enhance memory formation through new pharmaceuticals.

Ever wondered if you might someday be able to take a pill that would help you remember?  Well, we are working on this….no promises yet, but enhancing memory is certainly a worthy goal – for both those afflicted with disorders that impair memory as well as those who could simply use some help.

3) To prevent and/or stop Alzheimer’s Disease.

We are working upstream of Aβ and neurofibrillary tangles.  What causes the latter?  We have a couple of ideas and are working on the very early phases of synaptic loss and memory degradation.
